Winter is here

Image
Today the first snowflakes were falling. Slowly but steadily light flakes tumbled down all day long. Early in the evening the roads and roofs were covered with a white blanket. I took this photo early in the night when the moon was peeping through the clouds, illuminating the houses and the forest with an ice cold light. And with the first snow the Christmas market in the village is starting with hot wine punch and Christmas cookies.

You're so vain

Image
You're so vain ...  You probably think this post is about you.  Does anybody remember the tune sung by Carly Simon?  God have merci with the guy. Is it a sin to have a longing for being on a selfie  with Mother Mary ? At least he is decently dressed.

The Art of Living

Image
Recently in Italy, we enjoyed the Italian lifestyle, sitting outside in a traditional Café with some "dolce". What else to we need? Creativity easily comes along. Our dog did not approve of the result. Of course. She is black as the night. We complained to the barista without any result. It's the coffee. Or the milk?

Guard Dog

Image
My wife and I love cooking. Composing a meal, shopping for the ingredients and preparing the food is one of our favourite activities. As some dish requires extended roasting we sometimes need to leave the house to run some errands. No problem for us because we have a guard dog in the apartment that takes care of the chicken in the SmellyVision. Fingers   Paws crossed.

Desert?

Image
Desert or abstract photography? Do we see the grains of sand or the grains of the film? Or is it the ocean?

Encounter of Two Cultures

Image
During a drive through the Moroccan desert we passed a Berber tribe. This young mother with her baby was curious to see people from far away.

A Travelling Dog

Image
My wife and I love travelling. We have seen many countries as a couple and as individuals. Our dog joined our family when she was 10 weeks old. One of our first interactions was a car ride home between my wife's feet. Since then she has experienced transportation in many forms: train, tram, bus, boat, cable car and as the highlight a chairlift up the Swiss mountains. But never on a plane. She loved to join us on our trips with a motor home all over Europe. Her bed was between the driver and co-driver seats to make sure she is always with us. This photo taken on our recent trip to Tuscany clearly shows her curiosity and relaxed way of travelling.

Another Forest Community

Image
Another forest community a few years before: this time in the Malaysian rain forest. Though the trees are much taller and the sun much stronger we can clearly see the white lines separating the "Lebensraum" of each tree.

A Forest Community

Image
We spent a few days in a hut in the middle of a pine forest at the Tuscan coast. The forest was growing directly at the beach. Walking from the bright beach into the forest was like crossing the border into the darkness. Only a few patches of light were reminding us that it was still day outside. Looking up to the sky we could see these delicate bright lines separating the treetops from each others. It seems like every tree knew exactly where its territory ends and his neighbour's begins. Wouldn't it be perfect if humans had this attitude, too?

Island in the Sun

Image
Autumn is one of the best seasons to hike our local lake. Sun rays are boosting the yellow and red colour of leaves and the deep blue of the lake. The radiating heat keeps the memories of summer alive.

Nose to Nose

Image
You certainly have experienced this kind of moment when you turn around a corner and suddenly face an unexpected situation. Did you run away or was your curiosity stronger?

Rest in Nature

Image
In Bavaria Christian crosses are popular not only close to churches and cemeteries. You can find them also in gardens, fields or in the woods. I found this cross in a residential area in Garmisch.

Cold Desert

Image
India is full of contrast and contradiction: North and South, rich and poor, dry and wet, hot and cold. This picture was taken in the Desert National Park near Jaisalmer, the historical town in the heart of the Thar Desert (the Great Indian Desert). The morning sun warms up a boy who spent the cold night under stars among scorpions and other animals.

Autumn Sun

Image
Beginning of November the days with a clear sky and sunshine are limited. Today the sun came out for an hour in the afternoon. Too late in the day to shine onto our balcony. So dog and I had to walk around the hill to catch the last rays.
